'Loving Learning, Learning Skills for Life'

Literacy

You can choose to use Pobble 365 for your Literacy home learning which is a site that we use during morning activities or you may want to use the activities that we have uploaded based on a text that we focus on in Year 3.

Pobble 365 provides weird, wonderful and/or thought provoking images, to inspire pupils to write creatively on a daily basis. There are 365 images to choose from leaving no chance for boredom! With images that capture alternative viewpoints of fairytales and interesting set ups with super heroes to animals losing their habitats in safaris and rainforests to mythical creatures causing madness and mayhem as well as many many more, the writing opportunities are endless!

If the image itself doesn’t spark a thousand ideas, simply scroll down and use the activities that they provide. Follow the link below, to give it a go!

Lesson 1

Tuesday 31st March

Take a look at this picture. What can you see?

Don’t forget to use 2 A’s (adjectives) and remember, they must be appropriate to the object, thing or person.

Here are some questions that I would like you to think about:

  • What type of story do you think this will be?                                                                                                             Is it a fiction or non-fiction? What genre do you think it is, adventure, fantasy, mystery or romance? Explain your ideas.
  • What do you think the story will be about and why?
  • Where do you think the little boy is going?
  • Does this picture remind you of another story or character?

Remember, when you are answering these questions you must answer in detail, making links to what you can see.

Once you have responded to these questions, read your work aloud. You may want to read it to or with an adult. Together, check your writing for capital letters, punctuation (., !, ?), spellings and sense.

Lesson 2

Wednesday 1st March

Here are some clues on what the story is about....

To find the final clue, go to the art section and look at my most recent art challenge!

I have attached a story board for you to have a go at. Using the clues that you have been given, create a story board, thinking about what you think is going to happen at the beginning, middle and end of the story. You can draw a picture as well as write your ideas.

Lesson 3

Thursday 2nd March

Imagine that you are the boy, you have woken up in the middle of the night because of a terrible storm.

What can you see?

What do you hear?

How do you feel?

What do you do?

Imagine that you finally manage to go back to sleep however, the next morning you can't stop thinking about the storm so you decided to write about that night in your diary. What would you say?

Remember the key features of a diary entry;

  • Dear Diary,
  • Miss a line
  • Introduction - When, where, who, why?
  • Past tense
  • Feelings and opinions
  • Paragraphs
  • Pronouns - I, we, me

Lesson 4

Friday 3rd April

Imagine that you are the young boy and you have taken a short cut by walking through the forest. What would you see? What would you hear? How would you feel?

Record your answers to these questions within the template that has been provided.

You may need to research some pictures of forests or listen to forest sounds on Youtube to give you some ideas. You may even want to go on a walk in the park in order to observe and listen to your surroundings as parks and forests share a few similarities.
