Monday 4th May 2020

  • Practise reading all of set 1, 2 and 3 RWI sounds using the PowerPoints (see below) Set 1 sounds, Set 2 sounds, Set 3 sounds. Make a note of any sounds that child is not confident with and if you would like further support, please contact me.
  • Work your way through the ew sound PowerPoint (see below).
  • Complete the ew sound worksheet (see below).

  • Practise reading the ew words (see below).
  • Complete today's daily writing challenge (see home learning page). The link below will help your child to form their capital letters correctly. There are lots of animations to help your child form each letter with their pencil at the correct size and in the correct direction.

Wednesday 6th May 2020

  • Practise reading all of set 1, 2 and 3 RWI sounds using the PowerPoints (see below) Set 1 sounds, Set 2 sounds, Set 3 sounds. Make a note of any sounds that your child is not confident with and if you would like further support, please contact me.
  • Practise reading the ew words (see below).
  • Read the story Mrs Mildew and her pet newt (see below). As this story has a lot of words that contain the 'ew' sound, see if your child can read any of it independently. 

Discuss the following questions about the story with your child:

 

1. Why did Mrs Mildew keep the newt in a jug?

    HELPFUL HINT - What might happen to the newt if it was not kept in a jug?

 

2. What do you think a 'curlew' is if it 'flew to the table'?

    HELPFUL HINT - What animals fly?

 

3. Why did Mrs Mildew chase the curlew with a broom?

    HELPFUL HINT - What did the curlew do?

 

4. What speed was Mrs Mildew running at when she was chasing the curlew?

    HELPFUL HINT - If you were chasing something, what speed would you run at?

 

5. How was Mrs Mildew feeling at the end of the story when she was eating the stew?

    HELPFUL HINT - Don't forget that she had just chased the curlew and the newt was eaten.

Thursday 7th May 2020

  • Practise reading the Year 1 common exception words using the PowerPoint (see below). Make a note of any words that your child is not confident with and practise reading these particular words more regularly. If you would like further support, please contact me.
  • Quiz your child on this weeks spellings (see below).
