Arrival
When arriving at school in the morning, the Year 4 can access their classes through the side door near Year 4.
Dismissal
It is important that you are patient whilst teachers become familiar with new parents and carers. Please do not be offended if we ask you for the password as this is in your child’s best interest.
Reading Books
The system in Year 4 is that the child can change their book, as regularly as possible but at least once a week. Your child should know their Oxford Reading Tree Level. When the book has been read, your child will be responsible for changing it. The reading books, that the children will use, are located outside Mrs Charles’ office.
During transition, the children will be introduced to the new Recommended Reading Books for Year 4.
The Curriculum
Multiplication recall
In Year 4, the child will continue to focus on their speed and accurate recall of times tables. They will use the ‘ Year 4 Beat the clock’ challenges to improve their recall and gain their badges. (Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond.
Spellings
The children will practise spelling rules and learn how to spell the Year 3 and 4 Common Exception words. They will have a weekly spelling test and your child will be supported in using these correctly in their writing.
Forest School
We use our extensive school grounds for Forest School sessions that Mrs Leadley will lead. The classes will have a 6 week rota throughout the year.
P.E
The children’s kit should consist of a white t-shirt or a colour to represent their house (Oak—Yellow, Maple– Red, Beech– Blue), black or white shorts /joggers, a pair of laced outdoor trainers and black indoor pumps. Please note ALL earrings and jewellery must be removed by parents for PE days.
Only plain stud earrings are permitted. However for safety reasons these should be removed for PE and no other jewellery should be worn at school.
