'Loving Learning, Learning Skills for Life'

Spellings

Hello everyone! This Friday, we will be handing out your new spellings to learn this term. This week, we would like you to go back through the common exception words from Year 2 and check that you know them all. This is really important and will help with your writing. We would also like you to read through and start learning the Year 3 and 4 words. There are lots of them so try and practise a few each week. To help you, we have listed lots of ways to help you learn your spellings at home.

You could try some of the ideas below:

  • Look, say, cover, write, check
  • Pyramid write them
  • Rainbow write them
  • Making them out of playdoh
  • Spell the word out loud while throwing a ball to someone
  • Make a word search using your spellings
  • Write sentences using your spellings
  • Play hangman
  • Use magnetic letters or scrabble pieces to build your words
  • Make up a rap or song using your words
  • Look for words within words e.g. 'separate' has 'a rat' in the middle!
