  • Year 6 Gallery Rebels Exhibition

Thu 06 Apr 2017 Ms Bains

Today, Year 6 showcased their amazing art and sculptures during their annual exhibition. This year the pupils were recreating renowned works of surrealist, expressionist and impressionist work. A number of pieces were original creations in the style of much-admired artists such as Van Gogh, Monet and Dali.

As ever the standard was extremely high with some particularly eye-catching pieces. No doubt some of these pieces will become highly sought after and valuable in years to come. Well done year 6!

  • Prepare to be shell-shocked by our KS2 Egg-citing Parachutes

Mon 03 Apr 2017 Ms Bains
This year's KS2 Easter Challenge was to make an egg-citing crash suit and parachute that would protect a fresh egg which was dropped from the school roof. It made for a cracking start to the week with lots of models arriving this morning.  The models were egg-sactly what we were hoping for with some egg-ceptional prototypes. No yolk, the pupils and parents took this challenge to the egg-streme with colourful models and even an egg in a dress, no eggs-aggeration! Well done to everyone who brought in their design and thanks for going the egg-stra mile!

We've banked £1150 so far and expect a little more from some cakes that will be on sale on Monday. Well done everyone! We'll post the final fundraised amount here on Monday.

  • Happy Mothers Day

There wasn't a dry eye in the house today when Reception pupils hosted their Mother's Day Tea Party. Especially chosen songs were sung with each child saying a few words about why they love their mother. All our mother's day visitors were presented with a goody bag containing treats and handmade gifts for them to enjoy over the weekend.

    To all Blackwood mums:

    Each mother is beyond compare

    We love you mothers everywhere

Year 1 today showcased their amazing dinosaur-inspired creations at the annual Year 1 Dinosaur Exhibition. There was an abundance of species from the aggressive Allosaurus, to the spiky Stegasaurus and many more in between. Our brave Blackwood paleontologist dug deep to unearth some impressive exhibits that brought their topic to life!

  • Forest Arts Spring Dance Festival

Mon 13 Mar 2017 Ms Bains

Blackwood pupils participated in the Annual Forest Arts Spring Dance festival with our KS2 Dance troupe performing a modern dance piece to "By Your Side" by Jonas Blue and our Baby Ballet group performing a piece based on the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy from The Nutcracker. The children also received outstanding formal instruction from renowned professional choreographers which was performed as the festival opener. It was a brilliant day for all with the children coming away with skills and ideas that they'll showcase in future performances. Many thanks to the Dance Team, Jo Taylor, Miss Stevens and Miss Neuenhaus for all their support. We look forward to the next dance festival with great anticipation!

We suspect a number of pupils have now caught the travel bug!

  • World Book Day: Blackwood loves books

Blackwood pupils and staff showed how much they truly love books by dressing up as their favourite characters for World Book Day. There was a gaggle of Gangsta Grannies, masses of Mary Poppins' as well as a pack load of Paddington Bears!

Year 5 and Year 6 had an extra special treat when visiting author Laura Wood talked to them about her books and writing.
