Below you will find lessons for this week's Literacy sessions. This week, we are going to be
planning and writing a twisted tale based on 'Room on the Broom'.
A twisted tale is where we take certain parts of the story and change them with our own ideas. In Year 2, we changed the story of 'Jack and the Beanstalk' to 'Tom and the Dragon'. Rather than having a castle with a giant, we changed it to a cave with a dragon etc. The children are going to be doing exactly the same activity but with Room on the Broom.
In Monday's session, we would like the children to think about what characters they could change and how the ending might be different. We have provided completed examples to support the children if they need it. We would encourage the children to be creative but to stick as closely as possible to our example so that when it comes to writing the story during the week, they can use our modelled examples to help them. We would also encourage lots of oral rehearsal of the changed stories as this will really help with the planning and initial writing stages of the twisted tale.
On Tuesday, we will review our planning grids and start writing our story. Please take as much time as you need to complete them. We will add additional tasks during the week but would like you to focus on completing your story first. We have provided modelled examples to help to give the children ideas with their stories.
