We believe that reading is central to all our learning at Blackwood. Alongside children's acquisition of decoding skills, we aim to encourage enthusiasm for a wide range of text types in a variety of ways.
All children visit the School library each week and have access to a wide range of books in their class libraries too. Reading books are sent home as advised by each year group and the purpose of these is to encourage children's fluency and understanding.
We celebrate World Book Day in March and also participate in national reading initiatives such as Read for my School and The CLIC Sargeant Cancer care Readathon.
We provide opportunities for parents to view and acquire new books by running Book Fairs alongside our Parents' Evenings and welcome your attendance at workshops which will be organised at various times in the year.If you have any general queries about reading please feel free to contact me through School.
