Forest School

Welcome to Forest School.

Welcome to Forest School. 1
Forest School originated in Denmark as a method of teaching children within a wooded setting. Through exploration, play and child-lead activity your children will undertake learning and exploration opportunities in a non-formal environment, focusing on creative and linguistic expressions of their learning.  We are very lucky here at Blackwood as our school is set in the middle of woodland and provides access to several areas within the school site within which, ours sessions take place.
Forest School is an important part of our curriculum giving Blackwood pupils a unique educational experience using the outdoor environment of the forest as a classroom. Forest School activities are arranged for primarily, Year Four children but can be extended to other year groups. We are lucky enough to have a fantastic eco-garden on our site which provides a contrasting habitat to enhance our studies. Forest School is led by Mrs Leadley, one of our own teachers and a qualified level 3 Forest School Leader.  Mrs Leadley is supported by our loyal volunteers, Mr Davies and Mrs Sandland and apprentice, Miss Taylor.

Following the continued success of outdoor learning through 'A taste of Forest School' in Year Four, we are extremely proud to announce that a new 'Friday Forest School' programme is now in operation. Our  sessions will be based in our dedicated area within the school site and run by Mrs Leadley, teacher and level Three forest School leader. She will be joined by the regular team consisting of Barry and Mrs Sandland.

These sessions will be made available to selected children through nomination by their teachers and will last for up to one term. Each programme will include pupils from a variety of year groups to develop cross-year learning and supportive relationships.

Children who have achieved a nomination will be sent an email detailing upcoming arrangements and dates of sessions. Please inform school of any dietary and medical implications.

We are looking forward to sharing our achievements with you over the coming months.
