The Year 6 team; Miss Barber, Mrs Sanders, Ms Hoyle, Mrs Whiston, Mrs Youngson and Mrs Powell are looking forward to a rewarding year with you. On this page you will find information to help your child throughout this final primary school year.

Planners: In order to help your child to become more organised and in preparation for Secondary school, all Year 6 children will be issued with an individual planner for the school year. We encourage you and your child to make use of this tool.

Homework: Each Year 6 class will be issued with Maths, English & spelling homework on Mondays which is to be handed in on the Friday. Occasionally there may be topic related homework and SAT homework packs will be issued during half terms to help children to prepare for their end of year tests.

PE: Children will need PE kits in school on Thursdays and Fridays for PE lessons. Can you ensure that both indoor and outdoor kits are in school to allow for more flexibility in activities.

All usernames and passwords will be distributed and stuck into the children's planners to avoid being lost. If usernames or passwords are lost please inform one of the teaching team team.

Topics this year will include:

 

 

This is an art based project where children explore the history and techniques of a variety of artistic genres including; Impressionism, Expressionism and Surrealism- they also try their hand at sculpting in the style of Damien Hirst. Throughout the topic the children will be encouraged to experiment with colour, style and equipment in order to create their own art gallery.

 

 

This is a science based topic which focuses upon inheritance. Children will investigate and analyse the nature vs nurture debate and will explore features and traits that are either inherited or developed. They will carry out fingerprinting and take part in the world of forensic science.

 

 

This unit is history based and will cover the reign of Queen Victoria. Children will explore the differences in the lifestyles of the rich and poor; they will research the Industrial Revolution and will be analysing the impact that this era had upon life as we know it now.
